Retaking the HECM Exam
Once an active HECM counselor, HUD requires that the HECM Exam be taken every three (3) years to remain an active HECM counselor. This timetable begins on the date you were placed on the HUD HECM roster. When you pass the exam, you re-qualify for the roster and your exam results are sent to HUD and your status is updated. To find out the date you were placed on the roster, you can search for your agency on HUD’s list of HECM roster counselors, and see the date beside your name.
Use the HECM exam page for details on taking the exam.
